Lilly Endowment Scholarship Application Due Sept. 4

Fall 2018 Deadline for 2019 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars

The 2019 Blackford County Lilly Endowment Community Scholar will again be named early in December 2018. Before last year scholarship recipients were identified in March of the year they graduated from high school. The change affects the program for all Indiana community foundations.

The advanced timeline is the result of a “compelling recommendation” from community foundations who participated in a statewide evaluation of the program conducted by Lilly Endowment in 2015. During the evaluation process, a number of community foundations suggested that identifying Lilly Scholars earlier in the school year would give more time for them to decide which college or university to attend.

“The 2019 Scholar will receive our community’s 38th Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship,” said Community Foundation Executive Director Dave Bowman “We are thrilled to provide this scholarship opportunity to Blackford County students.”

Blackford County Community Foundation, Inc. is nominating one student to receive a Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in 2019.  This award provides full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any Indiana public or private college or university accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

To be eligible for an award, a student must be a Blackford County resident who will graduate by the end of June 2019 with a diploma from a regionally accredited Indiana high school, and who has a minimum GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) and a minimum combined SAT Score (Critical Reading and Math) of 1000 or minimum ACT Composite Score of 21.

Applications will be available in early August at the Blackford High School Guidance Office and the Community Foundation office, 121 N. High St., Hartford City.  The application will also be available at http://www.blackfordcofoundation.org  Completed applications will be due to the Community Foundation September 4, 2018.

Deadlines for all other donor-established scholarships administered through Blackford County Community Foundation will remain unchanged; those applications will be available December 1, 2018 and due March 5, 2019.
