Blackford County Promise 1:1 Campaign on #GivingTuesday Nov. 28

Donations to the Blackford County Promise program on Tuesday, November 28 will be matched dollar for dollar up to $500. This is an extraordinary opportunity.

The Promise program provides ways for young students in the county to establish and grow CollegeChoice 529 accounts as they are encouraged to plan for education beyond high school graduation and to prepare for productive careers. This savings plan for the future helps a young person build an identity of “I am someone who goes to college.” In fact, research shows that children with a college savings account in their own name are up to six times more likely to attend college than those without an account, regardless of family income, ethnicity, or the educational attainment of the child’s parent. With an account consisting of just $500 or less, a student three times more likely to enroll in college and four times more likely to graduate.

In 2016, donors made it possible for the Blackford County Promise to contribute over $11,000 to 376 local students’ CollegeChoice 529 accounts and provide activities to encourage career and college planning among Blackford County students and their families. These donations are giving children the support, encouragement, and opportunities of a lifetime.

The Blackford County Promise has set a goal to raise $20,000. Contributions can be in cash or by check made payable to Blackford County Promise with “1:1 Campaign” as the memo. Or donate online at with “1:1 Campaign” listed as the purpose of donation.
